Eric McClellan joined me at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Reproductive Investigation in Charlotte, North Carolina, where we both had the chance to present our latest findings. Eric presented his abstract, “Intralipid infusion in late-gestation fetal sheep does not alter myocardial composition,” diving into how lipid infusion affects the fetal heart during late gestation. While the results didn’t show changes in myocardial composition, they offer valuable insights into how lipid exposure could influence fetal cardiac development.

I also had the opportunity to speak during the Fetal Satellite Meeting, where I presented “Lipid-induced metabolic consequences in fetal cardiomyocytes.” Much of the work presented in my talk was performed by Natasha Chattergoon and Karthik Bose, who contributed significantly to our understanding of how lipid exposure shifts metabolic pathways in fetal heart cells. We discussed the potential long-term impacts these changes may have on heart health and disease.
It was an exciting meeting with fantastic opportunities to engage with fellow researchers, share knowledge, and continue pushing forward our understanding of fetal cardiac development and metabolism. We’re both grateful for the chance to contribute to these important conversations!
