We’re thrilled to announce that Eric McClellan has been awarded a grant from the Collins Foundation to study “Pulmonary vascular remodeling secondary to pulmonary venous obstruction in a fetal sheep model of hypoplastic left heart syndrome.” Eric, a pediatric cardiac intensivist, joined our lab to combine his clinical expertise with a passion for research, driven by the real-world challenges he encounters every day with his young patients.
Eric’s research is focused on understanding why some babies with severe congenital heart disease have worse outcomes than others, with particular attention to the pulmonary circulation. His work in this area could reveal important insights into how pulmonary vascular changes contribute to the progression of hypoplastic left heart syndrome and other congenital heart defects. This award will support his efforts to better understand the role of pulmonary venous obstruction in the development of these conditions.
Congratulations, Eric, on this well-deserved recognition! We’re excited to see how this work will further illuminate the complex biology of congenital heart disease and contribute to improving outcomes for patients in the future.
